Ok. We get it. The holidays are among us and spending time and money on estate planning may not be high on your priority list. But as you contemplate this season of giving, consider what a gift it is to your loved ones to have your affairs in order. Naming key people to make decisions on your behalf when you are unable to do so provides clarity and instills confidence in those you choose. Have minor children? Do not leave the decision of who will raise them up to a court. While it may be difficult to contemplate someone else raising your children, there is no one better than you to make this difficult decision. Ease the burden by making it clear. And do not leave them in the unfortunate position of having too much money too soon in life. Large sums of money left in the hands of anyone who is not mature enough to manage it, can be a curse, not a blessing. Be wise and leave things well.
As you spend time with family this holiday season, focusing on what matters most, remember that leaving your affairs in order is a gift of the non-urgent but extremely important type. We at the Meyerson Law firm are here and ready when you are. Call us to schedule a free initial consultation and we will be sure to work around all the hustle and bustle of the season. And don’t worry, if you don’t have a chance to get around to it by year end, we will be here in January as well, encouraging you to put estate planning at the top of your list of New Year’s resolutions!
Wishing you all the best this holiday season!
