It always amazes me how quickly the holidays come and go. This year was no exception. And now I find myself in that old familiar place of setting goals and making resolutions for the New Year. How about you? If you’re like me, and most other resolution-making people on the planet, your top resolutions have to do with advancing your health, relationships, and finances. As an attorney with a substantial estate planning practice, I’d be remiss not to suggest that creating an estate plan is a concrete, tangible action you can take today to help you move forward in all these significant areas of your life.
In regards to your health, decide who will make healthcare decisions for you if you are unable to do so, and discuss your wishes for end-of-life care with loved ones. In regards to your relationships, provide for those who depend on you in a thoughtful, intentional way that will help, not hurt them, should something happen to you. Lay out a plan that will ease their burden in your absence. And in regards to finances, organize your assets, know how they are titled, and ultimately understand how they will pass on to your loved ones should something happen to you.
As you move forward into the new year, if you need to put an estate plan in place or if you would like us to review the effectiveness of your current plan, please feel free to reach out to us. We would love the opportunity to become your trusted estate planning advisors today and for years to come!
